On Thursday, July 9, 2020 Darius Edsel “Tom” White, Sr. of Connelly Springs, North Carolina was called
home to be with the savior at the age of 83. Tom was born on August 28, 1936 in Gordon, West Virginia.
Tom graduated Van High School with honors. He was the president of the National Honor Society, Class
President, and co-captain of the football and basketball teams.
Tom and Fay were married after graduation and moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he worked for LTV
Steel for 30 years. He was a dedicated husband and father. He loved life and taking his children on
He attended Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland. He was a Cub Scout leader, a YMCA Indian
Guides Leader, and a 45-pint blood donor. He loved fishing and hunting and taught Sunday school and
sang in the church choir.
After retirement Tom and Fay looked forward to warmer weather in beautiful North Carolina. They
enjoyed traveling to thirty-eight states, Mexico and Canada, and an incredibly special trip to the Holy
Land, Israel. Tom was an avid gardener, beekeeper, and loved to share his homemade wine with friends
and family. Tom and Fay are members of the Shady Grove Methodist Church in Connelly Springs and
volunteered for many years serving with the food pantry program.
Tom is survived by his high school sweetheart who became his wife, Fay Adkins White, of 64 years. His
daughter, Teresa White Shimko (Bob), his grandchildren: Jessica Shimko, Joshua Shimko (Jenni), Jennifer
Shimko, Jeffrey Shimko (Britney), his great grandchildren: Caden, Sarah, Luke, and Mary (Joshua), his
siblings: Mary Canterbury, Minerva Walsh, Joe White. He was preceded in death by his son Darius Edsel
White, Jr., his siblings: Mildred Darling, Gene White, Van White and Hank White.
