Mr. Tony Maddox, age 70, of Lincolnton, North Carolina, departed this life on June 2, 2026. He was born on August 23, 1955, in Catawba County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Elder Prince Oscar Maddox and Eva Farley Maddox. He was a proud graduate of Maiden High School.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his siblings, Herbert Maddox, Tommy “Honey”Maddox, Rev. Gloria Easter, Hattie Maddox Collins, Oscar Maddox Jr.; Three Brother-in-laws, Haywood Easter Sr., Ronnie Collins,Sr., and Rev. Dr. Vernon Franklin Stinson, Sr., and a sister-in-law, Teresa Maddox.
Tony was a hardworking man who dedicated many years of his life to the textile industry before retiring. He was known for his love of fishing, spending time outdoors, and enjoying the company of family and friends. Whether casting a line on a quiet day or sharing stories and laughter with loved ones, Tony found joy in life’s simple pleasures and treasured the relationships he built throughout his life.
Tony leaves to cherish his memory, his loving daughter, Tanya Maddox Taylor; his grandsons, Khalid Sturdivant (Alexis) and Elijah Sturdivant; his siblings, Doris Hunter (Rev. Roger), Rev. Betty Stinson, Perry Maddox (Anita), and Barbara Maddox; an Aunt, an Uncle; and a sister-in-law, Elder Mildred Maddox. Tony shared a special bond with his many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a cherished place in his heart, along with many cousins and dear friends.
Tony will be remembered for his kind spirit, his love for family, and the friendships he maintained throughout his life. He touched the lives of many through his warmth, humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created, and the love he shared will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Coulter's Grove AME Zion Church, 4513 Startown Road, Newton, NC 28658. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
