Tony Dwight Johnson

Tony Johnson, 63, of Newton, NC, met Jesus when he entered Heaven on August 16, 2025, at 1:51am. Born on November 15, 1961, he was the cherished son of Carlise and Ann Johnson of Newton.

Tony was a 1980 graduate of NCHS. He was a longtime member of Tri-City Baptist Church and a retired engine builder, having worked for numerous NASCAR race teams over the course of 25 years. Tony also received a degree in Theology/Christian Ministries from Fruitland Baptist Bible College. He used his knowledge and his relationship with his Lord and Savior to teach others about God’s Word. Tony often said he had two best days in life. The first was April 13, 1988, when Blair and Jenna were born. The second was March 30, 2013, when his best friend, fishing buddy, and grandson Carson was born. Carson brought a smile to his face that nothing else in this world could. Tony was an amazing Papaw! Tony was no doubt greeted in Heaven by his Papaw John Propst, his Grandma Flossie Propst, his big brother Allen Johnson, and his precious niece Cora Bell, who were waiting for him.

Those who remain but will one day join him in Heaven are his parents, Carlise and Ann Johnson; his twin daughters, Blair LeAnn and Jenna Lynn Johnson; his grandson, Carson Julian Johnson; his sister, Tina Hoyle; his nieces and nephews; his former wife and lifelong friend, Charlene Spears-Johnson; and his extended family.

A Service of Celebration of Tony’s well-lived life will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at Jenkins Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 4:30-5:30 pm August 22, 2025 in the Celebration Center at Jenkins Funeral Home
