Terry A. Ramsey

Terry Augustus Ramsey, 78, of Newton, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Born October 25, 1946, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Clayton and Julian Ramsey. Terry honorably served in the U.S. Navy and went on to work in civil service at Camp Lejeune for 37 years.

He enjoyed spending time on his computer, especially watching YouTube conspiracy theories, and kept in touch with friends and family through regular text messages. Terry loved being with his family and going out to eat. He had a passion for fishing, visiting Civil War battlefields, and exploring history and genealogy.

Terry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sherry Ramsey; his son, Chris Ramsey and wife Alessandra; his daughter, Cherie Peyton and husband Theamus; his brother, Henry C. Ramsey and wife Sue; four grandchildren, Gavin Ramsey, Oliver Ramsey, Mackenzie Peyton, and Kimber Peyton; and numerous neices and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Jenkins Funeral Home, 4081 Startown Road, Newton, NC 28658. The family will receive friends  and family from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
