Shirley Jeanne Whitmire

Shirley Jeanne Whitmire, 77, of Newton died Tuesday, November 3, 2026 at Carolina Caring. Born July 14th, 1949 she was the daughter of the late Kelly and Margie Elizabeth Pennell. Shirley was raised in Taylorsville and was one of seven children in her family. She loved cooking, shopping and sewing and enjoyed her grandchildren.

Her daughters, Amy Moore (Jason) and Andrea Evans (Cliff); and grandchildren Will Moore, Elizabeth Moore, and Sara Evans: and a large extended family survive her.

In addition to her parents, her loving spouse, William Ross Whitmire and her brother, Steve Pennell preceded her in death.

The funeral will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 9, 2026 at Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ with Pastor Peggy Stout officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service, and burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
