Robert William Koback, 68, of Maiden, passed away Monday, August 17, 2026, at Atrium Health in Charlotte. Born August 26, 1957, in Cleveland, Ohio, Robert was a graduate of Hickory High School and Catawba Valley Community College, where he earned two associate degrees in Business and Transportation. He worked for more than 30 years in distribution.
Robert was a skilled craftsman and a true jack-of-all-trades. He was gifted and talented in many areas, particularly construction and working on cars. He even remodeled his entire home himself. Robert had a special love for animals and had many dogs throughout his life. He was also a devoted fan of the Carolina Panthers.
Robert proudly served four years in the United States Navy and continued his service in the Navy Reserves for seven years. He was a good friend to many and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Robert is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sandra Sutton Koback of Maiden, NC; four children, Lauren Koback of Lenoir, NC, Jack Koback and his wife, Natalie, of Beaufort, SC, Paulena Wilson and her husband, Josh, of Greer, SC, and Abraham Gildo and his wife, Eva, of Hickory, NC; six grandchildren, Owen Koback, Charlie Wilson, Liberty Wilson, Victoria Adams, Ruby Gildo, and Liam Gildo; his sister, Thea Deal and her husband, Robert; four nephews, Greyson Deal, Luke Lineberger, Tyler Moss, and Jacob Lineberger; his loyal companion, Misty; and his lifelong best friend, David Bolick.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Gerathy Taylor.
A private celebration of Robert’s life will be held at a later date.
