Verna, born on October 18, 1942, in Wilmington, NC was the sixth
 
 of nine children from the marital union of the late Mary Keith and John
 
 Thomas Bostick.
 
 On December 4, 1966, she married the late Reverend Sammie Lee Tucker.
 
 To this union, four children were born: two girls and twin boys.
 
 In 1961, Reverend Tucker received the baptism of the Holy Ghost at the
 
 House of God Which is the Church of the Living God the Pillar and Ground
 
 of the Truth Without Controversy, Inc. under the pastorship of the late
 
 Bishop Joseph Thomas in Brooklyn, NY. She served on the local and
 
 national levels including Sunday School teacher, church secretary,
 
 fundraiser, decorator, and choir director. Her sweet soprano was known for
 
 completing The Three Voices, a singing group with her cousins. Reverend
 
 Tucker was a missionary, visiting the sick and shut in. She later became an
 
 ordained minister and served as Asst. Pastor at Band #2 Brooklyn, New
 
 York.
 
 Verna had a passion for education and spent 18 years teaching children.
 
 She was a college student while working in daycare and raising her
 
 children. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education
 
 from City College in New York, she taught at a public school in Brooklyn,
 
 NY.
 
 In her later years, Verna returned to NC during her illness to reside with
 
 her daughter's family in Conover. She departed this life at Abernethy Laurels.
 
 She was a joy to everyone she met. A mother to many ---her warm personality,
 
 generosity, and sweet spirit will forever be etched in our memories.
 
 She is preceded in death by her parents, Sammie L. Tucker, seven
 
 brothers, John Thomas Bostick, James Bruce Bostick, Charles Bostick,
 
 Rudolf Bostick, Earl Anton Bostick, William Bostick, Lawrence Bostick and
 
 one sister, Brenda Ann Harrison.
 
 Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Samantha Tucker of
 
 Germantown, MD, Aretha (Russell) Taylor of Conover, NC, David Tucker of
 
 Willingboro, NJ and Daniel Tucker of Ansonia, CT; three grandchildren who
 
 affectionately called her Beemah, Christopher Taylor, Branden Taylor, and
 
 Serena Taylor of Conover, NC; a childhood friend Mary Newsome and a
 
 host of other relatives, friends and spiritual children.
 
 The family will receive friends from 11-12PM, Wednesday December 6, 2023 in Jenkins Funeral Home Celebration Center, with the Celebration of Life following in Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel at 12PM. The burial will take place after the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, located at 3120 Falling Creek Rd, Hickory, NC 28601.
