Norma Jean Woodie, 77, of Hickory, passed away Monday, August 17, 2026, at Carolina Caring. Born July 20, 1949, in Lenoir, North Carolina, she was the daughter of S.A. McCrary and Lola Mae McCrary.
Norma received her GED from Catawba Valley Technical School. She worked as a Tupperware director for 30 years and was very talented at whatever she put her mind to. She was intelligent, hardworking, and capable of doing just about anything she set out to accomplish.
Norma enjoyed sewing and made many clothes throughout the years. She also loved baking bread, and the bread she made was especially cherished by her husband, who said he had never tasted anything quite as good.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Carrol Randal Woodie Sr.; her son, Carrol Randal Woodie Jr. of Hickory, North Carolina; two daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Elam and husband Ken of Christiansburg, Virginia, and Regina Dean and husband John of Gainesville, Florida; two grandsons, Brian Elam of Virginia and Harley Dean of Florida; and two great-grandchildren.
Her parents and sister, Linda Collins, preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Open Door Baptist Church in Hickory, with Pastor Daryl Williams officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolina Caring.
Jenkins Funeral Home staff is not involved in the memorial service at the church.
