Matthew Day

Matthew Charles Day, 43, of Maiden, passed away Monday, February 9, 2026, at Carolina Caring.

He was born July 7, 1982, in Hickory, North Carolina. Matthew enjoyed bull riding earlier in life and later enjoyed tinkering with lawn mowers after he became ill. He loved riding four-wheelers, hunting, and joking around. He was never boring and always brought laughter to those around him.

Matthew is survived by his parents, Jeff and Christy Schronce; his brother, Ryan Schronce and wife Brittany; his niece, Abbie Schronce; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ted and Eva Waters and Otis and Helen Schronce.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Jenkins Funeral Home, 4081 Startown Road, Newton, NC 28658, with Pastor Lee McNeill.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Celebration Center at Jenkins Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Humane Society, or Carolina Caring Hospice.
