Kathleen Sigmon

Jul 31, 1934 — Jul 4, 2026

Mary Kathleen Sigmon 91, of Claremont died Saturday, July 4, 2026 at Carolina Caring. Born Tuesday, July 31st, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Claude Eugene Little and Susie Catherine Little. Kathleen possessed an outgoing personality and was blessed with many friends throughout her life with whom she shared many talents. She began her church life at an early age and was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Methodist Church. She had a love for music and learned to play the piano in the first grade. She began playing piano at the age of 10 at both Bethlehem Methodist and Shiloh Methodist Churches, with the first hymn she played being, "What a friend we have in Jesus."

She remained an active member until the time of her declining health.

She also played the organ, taught Sunday School and Bible Study and was active in the Women's Group and led the children's choir. An excellent cook, she prepared many cakes, casseroles and other dishes for homecomings, bake sales and chicken dumpling suppers. She had stated that if she were a younger woman now she would have chosen to be a chef.

She was a wonderful singer and sang for numerous weddings and funerals. She memorized verses of popular hymns and she particularly enjoyed hymns from the Cokesbury Hymnal. It has been noted that it was not so much that Kathleen was such a big part in Bethlehem Church...But that Bethlehem Church was a big part of HER.

She enjoyed visiting friends whether at home, hospitals or nursing homes. She was thoughtful in sending cards, gifts and food for friend's birthdays, anniversaries and bereaved families. She had a tremendous memory and could recall dates, occasions, phone numbers and addresses.

A lifelong homemaker, she became a postal employee later and enjoyed interacting with people; in fact she already knew most addressees. She was a great communicator and listener, loving and telling good stories and genuinely caring about the happenings in other's lives. The history and family linages in Claremont were of particular interest. She could recall even the middle names of relatives the Carpenter, Little and Sigmon side of her family.

She had many hobbies including cross stitch, decoupage, pottery, growing flowers, canning fruits and vegetables, from Coyte's and her garden and enjoyed sharing their bounty with others.

She was a wonderful daughter, sister, parent, grandparent and great grandparent. She was an exceptional sister to Gene, her brother. Their bond was truly binding and she was his best friend.

Kathleen experienced tremendous happiness in her long life. She persevered through tough times but mostly cherished great times and fond memories. We rejoice in knowing her final words were,"I am not alone, I am with the Lord."
