Mark Waring Galleshaw

Oct 20, 1951 — Oct 11, 2026

Mark W. Galleshaw, 74, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2026 at UNC Health Caldwell surrounded by his family.

Born October 20, 1951, in Dallas, Texas to the late Leslie W. and Joan B. Smith, Mark grew up splitting his time between Dallas and Lubbock, Texas. As a kid Mark played baseball and football, excelling at both. A lifelong Red Raider fan, Mark attended Texas Tech University and graduated with his bachelor’s from the North Texas State University, where he joined the Kappa Alpha Fraternity, later earning his MAI credential from the Appraisal Institute. During his career, Mark ran his own appraisal firm, earning licensure in multiple states, and also regularly served as an expert witness in matters of commercial real estate and an adjunct professor of real estate at Johns Hopkins University and the University of New Mexico.

Mark was a commercial real estate appraiser by profession and a musician and songwriter by passion. Mark loved to regale his friends and family with renditions of folk, rock and even traditional Irish songs, as well as songs he had written. Throughout his life, he enjoyed travelling and exploring the world and had a deep appreciation for mountains, beaches, forests and culture. He had a special affinity for the Grand Canyon. As a songwriter, he was often inspired by nature, humanity and by his family. Mark was a connoisseur of puns, a lover of Sherlock Holmes and known to be a bit silly from time to time. Above all he was a devoted husband, friend to many, Dad to six, and Grandpa Mark to many.

He is survived by his loving wife of ## years, Yvette Woods; daughters, Jessica Galleshaw (Jose Lopez), Tara Galleshaw (Justin) Rembert, Alyssa Galleshaw (Jacob) Copper, and Madison (Thomas Folk) Galleshaw; sons, Torin Galleshaw and Mark Nolan Galleshaw; stepson Eyan (Kristi) Townsend; stepdaughter, Breanna Townsend (Chris) McKay; and grandchildren, Lillian Rembert, Elijah Rembert, Ruby Lopez, Noah Rembert, Izzy McKay, Braeden McKay, and Easton Townsend; brother, Chad Smith; niece, Katherine Smith.

A celebration of Mark's life will be at a later date, where he will go out with a Bang! and into his well-earned rest.
