Marilyn Irene Setzer

Marilyn Irene Setzer, 71, of Claremont, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 5, 2025. She was born on January 5, 1954, the daughter of the late James Grover Holleman and Martha Vina Summers Holleman.

Marilyn was devoted to her family, finding her greatest joy in being a loving wife, a nurturing mother, and a cherished “Nanny” to many. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her caring spirit extended to everyone around her. Marilyn had a deep love for flowers, especially her roses. Known for her generous heart, she had a special talent for giving meaningful, thoughtful gifts and always made sure others were cared for and well-fed. Her kindness, warmth, and selflessness will be remembered by all who knew her.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Summer and son in law Josh Jones; three grandchildren, Kylie Rhymer (Jared Dietz), Rylee Jones, and Kynleigh Jones; two great grandchildren, Aspen Leigh and James David Dietz; and lots of close family and friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her one and only true love of 48 years, David Setzer; her beloved son, Stephen Ryan Setzer.

The funeral service will be held 1:00pm, Thursday, June 12, 2024, Jenkins Funeral Home, 4081 Startown Road, Newton, NC 28658. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 12:30pm and 1:00pm at Jenkins Funeral Home, 4081 Startown Road, Newton, NC 28658.
