Linda Settlemyre

Linda Kaye Settlemyre, 79, of Newton, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Born January 15, 1946, in Newton, NC, Linda was a registered nurse for over 40 years. She took great pride in her work as a geriatric nurse and was a strong advocate for her patients. During her career, she served as Assistant Director of Nursing at Abernethy Center in Newton, where she was deeply respected by both colleagues and residents.

Linda loved animals and was known for taking in strays of all kinds. She enjoyed traveling and went on several cruises throughout her life. Some of her fondest memories were made at the Outer Banks with her family. She also loved working in her yard and took great joy in keeping it beautiful.

Linda is survived by her son, Quintin Settlemyre and wife Regina; two grandchildren, Joshua Settlemyre and wife Ellen, and Katelyn Settlemyre and fiancé Spencer; one great-grandchild, Nora Jane Settlemyre; sister, Anita Hendren; brother, Greg Carter; sister, Vonita Carter; sisters-in-law, Linda Carter and Connie Arney; and many extended family members who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mark Settlemyre; her son, John Mark Settlemyre II; three brothers, Tommy Carter, Andrew Arney, and Anthony Arney; her mother, Irene Arney; her stepfather, Albert Arney; and her father, Thomas Eugene Carter Sr.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Jenkins Funeral Home, 4081 Startown Road, Newton, NC 28658, with Rev. Scott Greene, officiating . Entombment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
