Johnny Paul Wellman

Johnny Paul Wellman, 78, of Lawndale passed away Friday, July 24, 2026, at Carolina Caring. Born May 23, 1948, he was the son of the late Johnny Cecil Wellman and Helen Leona Wellman.

He had a passion for traveling and especially enjoyed taking cruises with his beloved girlfriend. He loved antiquing, selling at flea markets, and searching for unique treasures. One of his favorite pastimes was traveling to Pennsylvania in search of Amish farming equipment, combining his love of travel with his appreciation for history, craftsmanship, and farming.

He is survived by his son, Paul Wellman; his girlfriend, Hazel Bean; his brother, Terry Wellman; and his nephews, Terry Wayne Wellman, David Wellman, and Jamie Wellman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorine Towery Wellman; his son, Mark Wellman (Tammy); and his brothers, Jerry Wellman and Wayne Wellman.

The family will receive friends from 1:00–2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Zion Hill Baptist Church located at 8173 Old NC 18, Lawndale, NC 28090. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Allan Barlow and Steve Propst officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
