John Mayo

June 1, 1954 — July 18, 2021

John Patrick Mayo, 67 of Hickory died Sunday, July 18, 2021 at his residence. Born, June 1st, 1954 he was the son of the late Arthur Howland Mayo and Margaret Madolia Russell Mayo.  John served the airline industry as a pilot for Sonic Airlines, Sunbird Airlines, US Air, US Airways and retired from American Airlines with over 35 years of total flying experience. In addition to flying, he enjoyed boating and spending time with his family and friends.

His wife, Sabrina Barlowe Mayo of Hickory; two daughters, Cheri Renee Mayo  Sipes of Hickory, and Lisa Michelle Mayo Eisenberg of Wilmington and their mother, Joanne Mayo of Mountain View; a brother, Arthur Earl Mayo of Atlanta and three grandchildren, Austin Isaac Soto, Sophie Anne Eisenberg and Bentley Patrick Eisenberg and his kitties survive him.

A son, James "Jamie" Patrick Mayo preceded him in death.

A Celebration of John's life will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday July 24, 2021 at First United Methodist Church-311 3rd Ave NE, Hickory, NC 28601 with Rev. Paul Christy officiating.  Inurnment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park with Masonic Graveside Rites provided by Hickory Lodge #343.

The family will receive friends 1:30-2:30 p.m., at the church prior to the service.
