John Phillip Locklear, 56, passed away on August 9, 2025, in Lincolnton, North Carolina. Born on September 15, 1968, in Dearborn, Michigan, John lived a life defined by dedication to his family, tireless work ethic, and an unforgettable presence that left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

John was a devoted father to his daughter Makayla Locklear and son Nick Locklear. He was also a proud grandfather to four grandchildren—Abilene, Landon, Kali, and Atlas—who brought immense joy into his life. His love for family extended deeply to his sisters: Dawn "Dodie" Houser, and Holly Fay Locklear-Birch Charlotte Maynard and husband David. He also held close bonds with numerous nieces and nephews who cherished his guidance and warmth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Berlene Locklear; his cousin David J. Locklear; and his nephew Jeremiah.

John’s life was marked by hard work and selflessness. A skilled handyman with a passion for construction and cooking, he found joy in building things with his hands and sharing meals with those he loved.

Whether fixing something around the house or preparing a hearty dish for family gatherings, John poured himself into everything he did.

Known affectionately by family as “Maui,” John earned this nickname not only because of his physical stature but because of the immense size of his heart. He had a magnetic personality—loud, social, and inclusive—ensuring that no one ever felt left out. His presence filled every room he entered, offering comfort, laughter, and unwavering support.

John was more than just a provider; he was a protector and role model who went to great lengths to care for those around him. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched—family members who continue to draw strength from the example he set.
