James Kees

James Franklin Kees, 87, of Hickory, N.C. passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 3,2026 surrounded by his family. Born October 7, 1938 in Statesville, N.C., James was the son of the late Turner Harrison Kees and Willie Myers Kees. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons Ricky and Brent Kees and a niece Sandra(Sam) Bruner.

Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. Jim had an impeccable work ethic which he displayed for over 50 years as a tufted leather craftsman who created beautiful furniture, even for one of our President's. Jim's favorite vacation destination was Oak Island, N.C., there many wonderful memories were created with his family. Jim was a one-of-a-kind family man. His love and devotion to his entire family was immeasurable. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and the best Paw-paw ever, he will live in our hearts forever.

Those left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 66 years, Doris Wade Kees who took excellent care of him during his declining health, two daughters Lisa Blackwell and Kristi Tadlock, great-grandson Braxton Friar who he took under his wings and loved like a son, a brother Randy Kees and wife Donna, and a sister Marilyn Bruner. Also, are his much loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren Tiffany Friar (Adam), Alec Cardwell (Kim), Troy Blackwell, Brody Friar, Mia Cardwell and a niece Tracy Bruner.
