James Bryson Jones

James Bryson “Gus” Jones, 78 yrs, Lincolnton, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Beloved husband to his late wife, Nancy Gayle Crabtree Jones, devoted father to his daughter, Jennifer Lee Jones, and son, James Bryson Jones, Jr., and grandfather to Hailey Ellen Jones, Nathaniel Bishop Webb, and Luke Alan Webb. He was also preceded in death by his parents Lonnie Herman Jones and Minnie Ellen Tallent Jones, five brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by his brother, Bobby Ray Jones (Juanita).

Gus was born on November 24, 1947 in Lincolnton and like many of his neighbors in Lincoln County, he spent most of his working life supporting the knitting mills that existed at that time. Known as ”Gus” to everyone, or affectionately as “Goose” by family and close friends, he was loved by everyone who knew him. He was always willing to help others and worked hard throughout his life to provide for his family, who meant everything to him. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for those around him will be remembered by all who knew him.

To his granddaughter, Hailey, he was not only a grandfather but the man who raised her. His steadfast love, guidance and support, shaped her life in countless ways and his memory will always be cherished.

Family and friends are warmly invited to attend a viewing on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM, at Jenkins Funeral Home, 4081 Startown Road, Newton, NC 28658. Burial immediately following at the Hollybrook Cemetery, 302 Hollybrook Avenue, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
