Howard Lewis Price

August 17, 1934 — May 1, 2026

Howard Lewis Price, 91, of Lenoir, passed away Friday, May 1, 2026, at his home. Born August 17th, 1934, he was the son of the late Joseph Clarence Price Sr. and Ada Bell Price.

A former Lenoir City Manager and member of the Lenoir City Council, Price spent his retirement years indulging the twin passions that formed the foundation of his life, faith, and family. An active member of First Baptist Church, he remains the church's only Training Fellowship leader with a street named in his honor. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Carol; his daughter, Courtney; and his brother, Calvin Marshall Price.

Still, he embraced each day with a wry wit and good humor, applying the exclamation point with a fine bourbon and a good cigar. He was a force of nature, challenging and inspiring, a late adopter of iPad technology, and a Sudoku master. He never met a Tar Heels basketball team he couldn't embrace or a football game he wouldn't. Friends will miss his Amish bread, peach daiquiris, and strawberry jam but will relish the memories of Super Bowl and Christmas parties.

He is survived by his son, Lew Price (Lora) of Franklin, TN; his sisters, Dora Sees of Statesville and Carolyn E. Percel (Carter) of Statesville; his brother, Newell Smith Price of Greensboro; his grandchildren, Thorn Ellis, Trey Ellis, Cade Ellis, and Ciandra Cole; and his son-in-law, Sam Ellis.

His memory will be honored with a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM on June 6, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Lenoir, 304 North Main Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
