Herbert Allen Transou

Allen Transou, 74, passed away on July 12, 2026. Born on December 19, 1951, he was a lifelong resident of the Pleasant Hill Community in Wilkes County with a deep love for his family, friends, and community. 

Allen was the son of the late Herbert Howard Transou and Cola Anderson Transou. He graduated from Elkin High School and Wilkes Community College. Throughout his life, Allen was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he formed his faith in Jesus Christ and worshiped alongside family and friends. Later in life when health conditions prevented him from attending services in person, church members and staff continued to minister to Allen through visits and communications.

For many years, Allen served the community as a volunteer firefighter and board member with the Pleasant Hill Fire Department. Through this service, Allen developed friendships and a sense of community that remained with him throughout his life.

Allen will be remembered for his kind heart and playful sense of humor. He never missed an opportunity to tease family members and friends, always bringing smiles and laughter to those around him. His lighthearted spirit, genuine friendship, and willingness to help others made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his sister, Jennifer Jayne Transou. He is survived by his brother, Mark (Teresa) Transou, and two nieces, Meredith and Amanda, all of Lenoir, North Carolina; along with many extended family members, friends, church family, caregivers, and former colleagues who will cherish his memory.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers who cared for Allen over the past several years including those most recently at Yadkin Valley Senior Living.

Allen’s legacy of faith, service, friendship, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. While he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in the many memories shared and in the promise of eternal life.

A memorial service will be conducted Friday, July 17, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 593 Pleasant Hill Drive, Elkin, NC 28621 or Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Department, 1069 Austin Traphill Road, Elkin, NC 28621.
