Douglas “Doug” Todd Merritt, 52, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025. Doug was known for his infectious positivity, kind heart, and the way he made every person around him feel valued and seen.
Born on October 10, 1973, Doug built a successful career as a Senior Quality Manager in manufacturing, primarily in the automotive industry. He took great pride not only in his work, but in mentoring others — helping to shape their careers and watching them grow into their own success stories.
Outside of work, Doug lived life to the fullest. He loved nothing more than being outdoors — wheeling in his Jeep Wrangler, camping under the stars, fishing, boating, and racing his Mustang. Whether it was on the trail, the water, or the open road, Doug embraced every adventure with enthusiasm and a grin that could light up a room.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca Truman, and is survived by his loving wife, Emily Merritt.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Doug’s incredible spirit and the countless ways he touched the lives of those who knew him.
Doug will be remembered for his unwavering optimism, his boundless love, and his willingness to help anyone in need. His laughter, generosity, and joy will forever live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
Please sign the online guestbook on the Memorial Wall at www.jenkinsfuneralhome.net. The Merritt family has entrusted arrangements to Jenkins Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Newton 828-464-1555.
