Donald Eugene Lawing

Donald Eugene Lawing September 2, 1934 – July 18, 2025

Donald Lawing of Lincolnton peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday evening, July 18, 2025. He was a beloved member of his community and a longtime, active member of First Baptist Church, where he served faithfully alongside his wife, Kay.

Donald is survived by his loving wife, Kay Reep Lawing, of their home. He is also survived by two sons, both of Lincolnton: Tim Lawing and his wife Janet, and Tim’s daughter Lindsey Lawing; and Tod Lawing and his son Logan, and Logan’s son Grayson.

Donald is also survived by his brothers, Wallace Lawing and wife Pat of Lincolnton, and Jerry Lawing and wife Billie Jo of Sherrills Ford, NC. He is survived by two sisters, Pat Rush of Lincolnton, and Jeannie Arrowood and husband Gene, also of Lincolnton. His sister-in-law, Lurylene Lawing of Lincolnton, also survives him.

He was one of nine children and was preceded in death by his parents, L.V. and Mary Lawing of Sherrills Ford, NC. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Howard Lawing and wife Betty, Charles Lawing and wife Dean, Jackie Lawing, and Tony Lawing and wife Margaret of Pumpkin Center.

Donald and Kay enjoyed seventy-two years of marriage and were the owners of Lincolnton Floor Covering. Donald took great joy in delivering Meals on Wheels for fifteen years. He also served for many years as a fireman and was a dedicated member of the Gideons. A skilled craftsman, Donald spent countless hours in his woodworking shop, building furniture for his home and, in his later years, crafting birdhouses. He loved gardening and was known for sharing fresh vegetables and good conversation with friends and family.

Most importantly, Donald found joy in sharing his faith and was admirably known as a “Soul Saver.”

Arrangements: A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Highway 150, Lincolnton, NC.
