Don Hedrick

Donald T Hedrick of Conover, 93, passed away peacefully, Saturday November 22, 2025, at Carolina Caring Hospice House in Sherills Ford.

Born June 20, 1932 in Tullahoma, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Tollie Monroe and, Johnnie Williams Hedrick.

Don was a graduate of St. Stephens High School in Hickory. He began his long career in construction as a brick mason and through this passion he founded Don Hedrick Construction Company in Conover in 1957. He also was in partnership with Hedrick Mitchell Real Estate. Don was responsible for developing several subdivisions in the area including Lecho Park, Random Hills, Lecho Park Townhomes, Cambridge Place Townhouses, Brentwood, Brandywine, Olde Oak Apartments and others. He built several commercial projects including fire stations and St. Stephens Public Library. In June, 2021 Don was awarded The Key to the City of Conover for his lifetime of service to his fellow man, by Mayor Lee E. Moritz, Jr.

Don’s special interests included aviation and was an avid pilot for many years, piloting jets, twin and single engines and his favorite aircraft, his J3 Cub. He also was a passionate motorcyclist and he and his wife Cheryl traveled extensively across the US and Northern Territories. He loved the outdoors and made many hunting trips with close friends and companions.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a son, Coleman Brent Hedrick, a sister, Jannette Rector and brother Kenneth Hedrick.

Don is survived by his wife, Cheryl Bollinger Hedrick of 35 years, a sister, Annette Hollar, a son, David Philip Hedrick and wife, Vickie L. Hedrick, a daughter Patti H Daniels and husband, Don W. Daniels and stepson a Kevin McGee. Two grandchildren; Christina Hedrick and Michael Smevog; great Grandchildren, Michael McGee and wife, Kaycee McGee, Ethan Lail, Juliana M. Smevog, Jocelyn J. Smevog and two great great grandchildren, Natalie and Genevieve.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 26,2025 at First Methodist Church of Conover, 410 1st Ave N, Conover, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be John McCall, Michael McGee, Ethan Lail, Bob Schon, Robbie Bollinger, and Mike Bollinger.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to Carolina Caring Hospice, 7473 Sherrills Ford Rd, Sherrills Ford, 28673 or Sydney’s Friends Rescue, PO Box 135, Hickory, 28602.

Don’s memory will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him.
