Bobby Joe Whitt

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Bobby Joe Whitt, who was called home to bewith the Lord on July 4th, 2025, at the age of 83. Bobby Joe was born on May 5th, 1943, in Etowah, Alabama, to the late Lonnie and Annie Whitt. He grew up in Alabama along with 13 brothers and sisters. After proudly serving 21 years in the United States Air Force, he settled down in Hickory, North Carolina, where he planted roots and spent his later years.

Bobby Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was known for his selfless heart, always putting the needs of others before his own. Whether it was offering a helping hand, lending a listening ear, or simply showing up when someone needed him most, Bobby Joe gave of himself generously and without hesitation. His quiet strength and unwavering kindness touched countless lives and left a legacy of compassion and humility.

Bobby Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sherry Anne Whitt; his daughter Anne Christopher; his grandson Joshua Potter; his great-grandson Akire Christopher; and a cavalry of other cherished loved ones who went before him. He is survived by his son, Charles, and daughter, Rebecca (Edison); his grandchildren: Katie (Koop), Andrew, Chandler (David), Anthony, Amanda (Tyler), and Erika; as well as an army of great-grandchildren who will forever be shaped by his love and example.

The funeral service will be 12:00 P.M. Friday, July 11, 2025 at Etowah Memorial Chapel, 12600 US-431, Sardis City, AL 35956. The family will receive friends from 10:00-12:00 at the funeral home, and burial will follow at the Kyuka Cemetery.

Bobby Joe will be remembered not only for his service and devotion to his family but also for his generous spirit and the love he poured into the world around him. He will be deeply missed and
