Robert Milton Taylor, 83, of Hickory passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Trinity Ridge in Hickory. Born, October 18th, 1936 he was the son of the late Mills Higgins Taylor and Carrie Reid Taylor. Robert was a Sergeant on the Hickory Police Dept. where he worked as a Bike traffic officer for many years. he was a competition rider for the American Motorcycle Assoc. and also raced Motorcycles professionally at Daytona Speedway. Robert was a past Master Mason at the Cookville Lodge 502.
His wife of 62 years Hilda Clay Taylor of the home, a daughter Kimberly Wike and husband Steven of Catawba; two sons Richard Taylor and wife Terri of Hickory, Clay Taylor and wife Sandy of Conover; three sisters Anne Williams of Hickory, Martha Powell and husband Larry of Conover, Milly May of Hickory; two brothers Edward Taylor Sr. and wife Lydia of Ellicott City, Maryland, Donald Taylor and wife Pat of Hildebran; grandchildren Dillon Wike and wife Ashley, Audrey Wike, Heather Gilmore, Christopher Beach, David Taylor; five great grandchildren Emma Grace Caroline Wike, Daniel Silas Wike, William Gilmore, Maddie Burgess, Gabe Gilmore and a number of nieces and nephews survive him.
The funeral will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 29th, 2019 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Stikeleather officiating. Burial will follow at Houcks Chapel in Hickory.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm Monday, October 28th, 2019 at Celebration Center of Jenkins Funeral Home.
